Ok lets analyze something shall we my dear readers? Let's analyze something that is worth our mental prowess. Something intensely complex that no one has ever unraveled before. Ok! Let's think about the paradoxial nature of the meaning of life. A question that haunts the very essence of human existence and is uncomprehendible by anyone that does not possess onmipotent capibilities. Quite a facinating and tantilizing topic of analyzation no? Let's suppose that the average man dies of old age and has accumulated an average about of wealth and has experienced the average amount of troubles and of happiness; hence the term "average" man. Now life poses two definite sides during its progression; these two sides are simply deemed positive and negative. For example, losing your virginity without negative consequence would be considered a postive but then realizing that you were drunk and woke up outside of a transexual bar would be negative. Or rather, would be negative to most. *ahem* Yes, where was I, anyways, life is obviously composed of many of these positive and negative events and many neutral events that do not affect our lives in any way and so those negative events are not put into consideration. Being, Asian (not AzN), considering the consequences and living for the future has become a dominant portion of my decision making process. For example, Key Club is filled with people whom possess the same mindset as me for they continously "whore" community service hours for the sake of ass kissing the college "gate keepers." Well, this all comes off fine because Key Club is a lie that is a win-win situation. (Sorry to those that actually perform community service for the sake of the community, a rare breed you have become.) Anyways, racist-ly and statistically speaking, those who chose to make choices solely for the sake of their future do in fact get admission to better colleges and in turn recieve more in their paycheck and live more luxury filled lives. *Note the high percent of Korean students at UCLA* I'd put some website with statistical information on that exact percentage, however, the sin of sloth has engulfed me and therefore I won't. Now considering that fact that we use a general formula of "What is better for the outcome of our future?" as a basis upon our core decisions in our life, let's apply that to the question of "What is the purpose of life?" So we ask, "What is better for the outcome of life?" Answer, life does not lead to an outcome, death is the only sure result and death is a neutral event because it cannot benefit us and certainly cannot bring us harm after it. As mentioned before, neutral events are deemed unpurposeful. Death, the only sure result of life is unpurposeful. Life leads only to death. If we use our forumla of the future as our outline of decision making, we come to the conclusion that the future of life is certainly death, and death has no value. Therefore, we have accumulated the fact that the future of life has no value. Now, this statement undermines the entire idea of life itself because it would destroy any meaning to life. Now, this entire analysis has no consideration with religion in mind because for those who chose the path of a higher being, death isn't the only conclusion to life and thus, the variables will extend infinately into the extremes of positive and negative. Now, if we consider this from the non-religious point of view, the only view in which such analysis can be based on without breaking barriers of uncertainty, then life has no real meaning nor purpose. What is the meaning of life then you may ask. The answer cannot be just nothing. Then why are we even living you may ponder. Well, my unconventional, cliche answer to that would be, yes and no. The answer is nothing, but it does not redefine that fact that life should exist. Life exists for its own sake. To apply this to more apparent situations let's consider the stereotypical Asian mindset of education superiority. Surely, we whom do not life for now and instead live for tomorrow, surely, we walk blindly through the wealth of youth. No? Life does not end with a surprise, it holds no glory nor beauty in its defeat. Only the regret of the limitation of time. Death, the great equalizer gives no sympathy to those who possess Ph.Ds or who have treasure troves of cash. I am not disregarding the fact that material wealth does grant a degree of happiness, nor am I advocating the ignorance of education. I am simply bringing to conciousness the universal vision that life, even though apparently forever and solid, ends. It ends without remorse nor warning. If we live for the uncertainty of tomorrow we may be living for such an abrupt end, we may be living for the promised nothingness of the blessed living. Right now, I am advocating that we forget the notion to live in the past and nullify the ideals of living for the future, but see which eyes unclouded with such that the clarity of the meaning of life should be answered for all of us. This question of the purpose of living should be rhetorical. It should be answered the day you understood the stain of death. Our lives are composed of these negative with consequence and positives with benefit, but we've failed to realize that life as a whole is a neutral. It does not give benefit nor shun. Therefore, the beauty of life lies within its own nature. Life, in essence, cannot punish, but it also cannot relieve regret. "The beauty of life lies in the essence of the fact that at any given moments, it may slip." - Carlos Mencia, Standup Comedian. Whatever truths which lie beyond the veil of death is an apprent mystery to us. But we know that life is on a timer and runs without end, until the end. Live the life you have now. Love the ones that deserve it, touch the lives of all and do not let regret catch up. The choice of wether to accept my advice or to deny it, of course yours. But this decision will become a chasm of difference between those who are truely happy, and those who feel they will eventually catch up to happiness, because happiness is not an amount, it is not a title nor an object to pursue, but rather it is a realization. I can see I've been talking too much because my girlfriend is waiting for me to call her back and I'm 5 minutes overdue! And finally, the simple answer the the complex paradox of the question "What is the meaning of life?" Simply put, the meaning of life is living life for the sake of itself. Stephen at 10:21 PM | |
